uess what grabbed the attention of tribal youth of Adilabad at the TESLA-2015 science fair for Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Schools and junior colleges organised by TTWRJC, Laltekdi, Utnoor. They wanted to know the nitty-gritty of firearms at the exhibit on the topic of terrorism.
No, their inquisitiveness did not stem from the current phase of Maoist activity in the district. It had more to do with joining the police force through the exams slated to be held sometime in the coming months.
Terrorism perhaps became a topic for putting up an exhibit at the science fair for the time and its relevance cannot be denied. Boini Lavanya and Amaraganti Sindhu, both studying Intermediate second year at the TTWRJC for girls at Utnoor, did a good job by explaining some of the rudimentary aspects associated with extremism.

“Terrorists mostly kill innocent people and are harmful to the nation as they hinder progress,” stated Lavanya as she answered the queries posed by Islavath Dinesh, a degree second year student from Government Degree College, Utnoor. “The terrorists use sophisticated guns like AK 47,” she informed the youngster, but could not elaborate beyond that.
Madavi Navin, a first year Intermediate student at Laltekdi College, was among the hundreds of visitors to the TESLA-2015 who are preparing for exams for selection of police constables. “It feels good to know how firearms work,” he said after visiting the exhibition. The science fair was a big draw among students of tribal and social welfare educational institutions over the last three days. Most popular among the exhibits were the ones on bio-pesticides exhibited by Ajmera Raju and Manga Sai Kumar, class X students of TTWR School for Boys, Laltekdi and on power management. Laltekdi College principal Jalagam Satheesh Goud said 16 Gurukulams and 15 Tribal Welfare Kasturba Gandhi Vidyalayas participated in the science fair putting up 62 exhibits. There were 8 themes or topics on which the exhibits were displayed.
