Doctors oppose GOs 21 and 22 on PG seats

Want quota for in-service docs retained

Government doctors working in various hospitals staged a protest demonstration demanding withdrawal of Government Orders 21 and 22 here on Monday.

They contend that the orders would deprive the in-service candidates of the opportunity to pursue PG courses. The GOs were issued doing away with the earlier system of reserving 50% seats in PG medical courses of government colleges. Instead of reservation, it decided to award weightage marks to in-service doctors.

They raised slogans against the government and accused Karunakar Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Kaloji Narayan Rao Health University for allegedly misleading the government in this regard.

Telangana Government Doctors Association General Secretary Chandra Bhanu said there were several unresolved issues of the doctors in the State which the State Government had opted to ignore for a long time now. “The contribution of medical professionals to the separate Telangana movement was immense. They hoped much from the TRS government but they are being given a raw deal by the same party,” he said.

Describing the GOs 21 and 22 completely unlawful, Dr. Bhanu said all the doctors across the State were opposing the guidelines. They condemned the role of V-C of KNR Health University. They wanted the government to reconsider its stand and not to link PG in-service quota with marks.

The doctors demanded filling of PG seats in clinical and non-clinical wings with service quota. They threatened to intensify their agitation if the government failed to heed to their demand.
