‘Doctor saab’ endears himself to one and all

Fondly called and revered as “Doctor saab ” by most of his patients and friends, C. Jalapathi Rao is one of the first physicians of north Telangana. Born in a lower middle class agricultural family in Medipally village of Karimnagar district he has treated hundreds of patients not only from Telangana but also from Maharashtra free during his career spanning over 56 years!

The octogenarian physician has been a leading medical consultant till recently. His meticulous and careful approach to health problems and critical analysis endeared him to multitudes of his patients. It is not an exaggeration to say that he has opened about 1,000 private hospitals as he is looked upon as a doctor with a “golden hand”, which would ensure the success of the hospital he inaugurates.

Highly experienced

Dr. Jalapathi Rao set up his practice after completion of MBBS from Osmania Medical College in 1959 and completed MD in general medicine from the same college in 1962. He was conferred FCGP in Bombay. He served in various capacities, including as the superintendent of the district headquarters hospital. He was the chairman of Indur CT Scan, MRI cathlab and colour Doppler centres which have been providing good service to the people of the region. He was a member of IMA since 1963 and also served as its president. He played an active role in mobilizing funds for the IMA building and participated in scores of medical camps which gave medical relief to the poor.

His passion for social service drove him to participate in programmes aimed at building a better society with cherished values. He joined Rotary International and was a motivating factor in the expansion of the club’s activities. Dr. Jalapathi Rao was also the chairman of Nizamabad Rotary Service Trust during 1986-90 and took a stellar role in the construction of a new building on four acres of land at Nyalkal road.

He was unanimously elected District Governor of RI District 3150 and in his tenure travelled to the UK, European countries, the USA, Malaysia and Nepal. For his outstanding services he was honoured with the Rotarian Award.
