Activists of the CPI (ML-New Democracy) and its farmers' wing AIKMS staged a demonstration in front of the Agriculture Market Yard here on Friday to press for their charter of demands including increase in minimum support price for cotton from Rs. 4,100 to Rs. 8,800 per quintal.
Mild commotion prevailed at the market yard when the agitators tried to scale the locked entrance gate in a bid to enter into the procurement centre of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) on the premises of the yard.
The police prevented the protesters from entering into the market yard. The agitators led by the CPI (ML-ND) district secretary P. Ranga Rao and the AIKMS State secretary K. Rangaiah staged a sit-in protest in front of the market yard.

They continued their stir until the market yard officials concerned came out of the yard. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the officials in support of their demands.
Their other main demands include enhancement of MSP for paddy and maize, relaxation of norms pertaining to moisture content in cotton, one-time settlement of farm loan waiver and two years moratorium on private loans of farmers.
