‘Shun differences and focus on civic infrastructure’

With a section of TRS corporators raising a banner of revolt against Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) Mayor G. Papa Lal, the opposition parties, mainly the CPI(M), have upped the ante against the ruling party for alleged groupism and neglect civic issues.

The long-simmering rivalry within the TRS came to the fore on Saturday after around 20 TRS corporators reportedly met Minister for Municipal Administration K.T. Rama Rao and aired their concern over the Mayor’s style of functioning. The TRS’s image in the town was dented following controversies pertaining to land disputes involving a few TRS corporators in the recent past.

The groupism among the TRS corporators reached a flashpoint with some of them offering to resign their posts protesting against the Mayor of their own party, alleged CPI(M) two-town committee secretary Y. Vikram. The nearly two-year TRS rule in the corporation has been marred by corruption and internal bickering, he charged. Long-pending issues, such as the shifting of municipal dump yard from the residential zone of Danvaigudem, remain unattended till date. “They should shun their differences and focus on development of civic infrastructure, he said.
