Conserve water, citizens told

Walk held on the occasion of World Water Day

Driving home a message: Students taking part in a rally on the occasion of World Water Day in Warangal on Thursday.

Water has become a scarce resource and it is the responsibility of every citizen to conserve the resource for the future generations, said Shoury Reddy, executive director of Bala Vikasa.

He was addressing a gathering of students from various educational institutions here on Thursday on the occasion of World Water Day. To commemorate the occasion, a three kilometre ‘Walk for Water’ was conducted from Public Gardens to the district Collectorate.

He stated that Bala Vikasa – an organisation that works for sustainable development – has been organising the walk for the last 10 years on to raise awareness on water conservation.

Similar programmes were arranged in over 150 villages in the district with the support of local institutions. Participants in the rally raised slogans to conserve water and sported placards with similar messages.

Earlier in the day, about 300 students from various schools participated in essay writing and drawing competitions at the Public Gardens. The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates after the rally.

PDTC programme manager Sunitha, water programme officer Pratap Reddy, water project coordinator Upender Babu, Siva Ram, water project field coordinators and others were also present on the occasion.
