March 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

In a novel protest, the Karimnagar district Congress leaders under the leadership of former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, conducted special prayers at Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam to appease the State government to allocate funds for the development of the Vemulawada temple shrine on Friday.

Expressing concern over the neglect of the Vemulawada temple shrine, the Congress leaders performed special prayers at the temple and prayed to the presiding deities to enlighten the State government so that it may allocate funds for the development of the shrine. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ponnam Prabhakar said that Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam was fetching the highest revenue for the Endowments Department in Telangana and the rush of pilgrims was increasing every year. Ironically, the State government had neglected the temple shrine in the allocation of funds for its development. The Congress leaders demanded that the government allocate funds to the Vemulawada temple shrine on par with the Yadagirigutta temple. Former Vemulawada temple chairman Bomma Venkateshwar, former market committee chairman E. Manohar Reddy, Congress leaders G. Jayashree, Ponnam Satyam and others were present.
