Centre allocates Rs. 1,030 cr. to flood-hit AP

The Union Finance Ministry has said that it has taken immediate steps to release funds to the flood-affected Andhra Pradesh.

The government said it allocated Rs. 1,030 crore to Andhra Pradesh for dealing with the disaster, and it would consider more help to the severely affected States based on assessment by a team.

“A letter has been received from the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister seeking Central assistance…,” the Finance Ministry said on Tuesday.

A team of Central government officials would visit Andhra Pradesh once the State sent its memorandum on the extent of damage.

Every year, the Centre would meet 75 per cent of the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), and the remainder was paid by the States. If the consequences of a disaster could not be handled with the money from the SDRF, a claim might be made on the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF), and the money from it would be released on the basis of the Centre’s assessment. The Ministry of Home Affairs would take the lead in the assessment.
