Medigam Jaya Bharath Reddy alias Bharath Reddy, a former BJP leader and accused in the attack, criminal intimidation and humiliation of dalits in Abhangapatnam of Navipet mandal, was arrested and presented before the media, here on Monday.
On a tip-off that the accused, who has been absconding ever since the cases were registered on him at the Navipet police station on November 12, was escaping to Nagpur in a car, the police special parties took him into custody at Tekrial on NH-44 near Kamareddy early this morning, according to Commissioner of Police Kartikeya. Giving details to the reporters, Mr. Kartikeya said that two special parties were constituted under the leadership of CI of Police, Nizamabad (North) Buchayya and CI of Police, Dichpally, Tirupathanna, to search for Bharath Reddy soon after a complaint was registered against him by Manikula Gangadhar.
The complainant explained that Bharath Reddy attacked two dalit youth -- Bachula Rajeswar and Kondra Laxman -- for resisting illegal mining of gravel in the village. He also made them to rub their noses to the ground and made them take a dip in dirty waters, said Gangadhar in the complaint.

Three cases -- SC, ST POA and two kidnap cases -- were registered against the accused. Bharath Reddy, who would be produced before the court, has a criminal track record, said the Commissioner of Police. He also appreciated the efforts of the CIs of Police and CCS SI Ravindra Naik in the arrest of accused.
Meanwhile, the arrest of Bharath Reddy came on the close heels of the orders of the National SC Commission member K. Ramulu, who called on the families of victims on Saturday.
