Members of the Gangireddula community and other backward classes took out a rally in connection with the two-day conference of the Telangana BC Sangham, which got under way here on Thursday.
The rally featured impressive demonstrations by members of Gangireddula folk art troupes and others highlighting the plight of various nomadic and semi-nomadic communities in the State. The rally culminated at Bhakta Ramadasu Kalyana Mandapam after passing through the main streets of the town.
Members of various BC communities from all over the State took part in the rally. Speakers at the inaugural session called on the State government to introduce a sub-plan exclusively for backward classes.

Sangham State president Ch. Venkanna Yadav urged the government to extend the ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ scheme to BCs and sanction each landless family a plot measuring three acres. The speakers sought the implementation of BC welfare schemes on a mission mode to give a new lease of life to the traditional occupations of BCs, and ensure economic empowerment of the weaker sections, particularly the nomadic communities.
Some speakers narrated the ordeals being faced by members of some semi-nomadic communities in obtaining caste certificates in various parts of the State. Several academicians, representatives of various students’ and employees’ associations and others spoke.
