Avoiding accidents at unmanned railway crossings is easy now

The students of GITAM University have developed a gadget that prevents accidents at unmanned railway stations. GITAM School of Technology Director N. Siva Prasad formally inaugurated it at GITAM Science and Activities Centre (GUSAC) on Wednesday. He appreciated the efforts of the B.Tech final year students.

“The device was displayed to the South Central Railway higher officials and the technical head. As per their advice, it was tested at Railway Signaling and Training School (RSTS) at Moula-Ali. We have modified the device as per the advice of the RSTS team,” team leader Shakthi Priyan said. Under the leadership of V. Shakthi Priyan, S. Sai Kumar, S. J. Sameer, G. M. Aparna, B. Monaja and T. Sushmitha developed the device. “It can work with 5 volts of electricity. It can be erected at any remote place with a solar panel and replacing a spoiled device with a new one is simple,” the team members said.
