Amid din and loud protests, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 that allows transfer of a few mandals from the newly formed state of Telangana to the residual state of Andhra Pradesh.
The Minister tabled the bill amid protests by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) members who are firmly opposed to it. The Bill which seeks to replace an ordinance promulgated in May.
Bhartuhari Mahtab of Biju Janata Dal and Vinod Kumar of TRS opposed the introduction of the Bill, demanding its withdrawal as it failed to protect the interests of tribal people. While Mr. Mahtab said that some tribal areas were sought to be transferred from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh without consent of the tribal people living there, Mr. Kumar’s objection was mainly on account of procedural lapses.

As soon as the House reassembled after the lunch break, slogan shouting TMC members rushed inside the Well, demanding withdrawal of the Rail Budget and raising slogans against the Prime Minister. TRS members also joined them but their demand was withdrawal of the amendment to the AP Reorganisation Bill. The amendment aims at facilitating resettlement and rehabilitation on part of the Polavaram multi-purpose project.
