Adivasis owing allegiance to various organisations blocked the Bhadrachalam-V R Puram main road by dumping branches of trees on the outskirts of V R Puram mandal headquarters on Friday.
They staged a road blockade as part of the bandh called by the “all-party” division committee in protest against the Centre’s ordinance merging seven Polavaram submergence-prone mandals of the district with residuary Andhra Pradesh.
Vehicular movement on the main road was disrupted for several hours due to the road blockade. The protesters shouted slogans vehemently opposing the Centre’s ordinance transferring seven tribal sub-plan mandals including V R Puram to the successor State of AP. They vowed to spearhead the agitation till the Centre withdraws the ordinance.

Rallies, demonstrations and other modes of protests marked the bandh called by the all-party committee in the Polavaram submergence areas in Bhadrachalam and Palvancha divisions on Friday.
Meanwhile, the indefinite hunger fast by CPI (M) MLA Sunnam Rajaiah and 16 others including several sarpanches and MPTC members against the Centre’s ordinance in Bhadrachalam entered its second day on Friday.
CPI (M) veteran leader and former MLA Konja Bojji, Congress MLAs R. Venkat Reddy and K. Kanakaiah, and others visited the indefinite hunger stir camp on Friday.

Several leaders of both the TDP and YSRC besides various Adivasi organisations extended their support to the ongoing indefinite fast by the CPI (M) MLA and others.
