Winter has arrived in Adilabad what the minimum temperature remaining below the 14 degree Celsius mark since the last four days. The lowest temperature of the season, 11.4 degree C was recorded on Wednesday.

Temperatures started plunging below the 15 degree C mark since November 13 when the minimum temperature recorded was 13.7 degree C.

It has decreased at the rate of about 1 degree C every alternate day.

The day temperatures, however, continue to remain on the higher side with the maximum temperature hovering around 32 degree Celsius. The vast difference between the minimum and maximum temperatures is rather unusual for this time of the year.

Though the weather is unlikely to affect the health of standing crops at present, scientists nevertheless are monitoring the situation.

“Nothing to worry until the temperature plunges below 10 degree C and remains there for over a week,” said Sreedhar Chauhan, Principal Scientist, Adilabad Agriculture Research Station.

“The prolonged severity in cold weather results in chilling factor. This hits fertilisation and photosynthesis activity in plants,” he explained.
