The district committee of the CPI(M) held a protest demanding the government to address the problems being faced by the people as well as cattle due to severe conditions of drought. The protest was held along with cattle before the Collectorate office here on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, party district secretary A. Mallesham said that the government should take immediate steps to reduce the impact of drought by supplying drinking water in tankers, fodder and water for cattle, and 200 working days for farm labourers.

“The government has announced Medak as a drought-effected district, but it has failed to take necessary steps to address the problems being faced by the people. At the same time, the wages of MLAs and MLCs were hiked notwithstanding prevailing drought conditions. Farmers are at the receiving end, as the banks are not coming forward to extend loans,” said Mr. Mallesham.

Informing that even the cost of fodder has increased four times, he said that a tractor load of fodder costs about Rs. 8,000, while in the past it only cost Rs. 2,000. Stating that party has commenced ‘Karavu Yatra (drought tour)’, Mr. Mallesham said that it would be concluded on April 12 at the Collectorate office.

Party leaders B. Mallesh, G. Jayaraj, K. Rajaiah and others participated.
