Luck smiled on Jajala Surender, the Congress candidate from Yellareddy Assembly Constituency in Kamareddy district when he defeated his traditional rival and former MLA Enugu Ravinder Reddy by over 34,000 votes.

Right from the beginning, Mr. Surender maintained a lead over the TRS rival. In the end, while the Congress led People's Front facing severe setback across the State, Mr. Surender's victory came as a dream come true. Strong anti-incumbency against Ravinder Reddy propelled Mr. Surender to the winning goal as his campaign attracted the attention of the voters.

Reaching out to the electorate as a man who is always accessible, the Congress candidate managed to win the hearts of the voters. So much was the sympathy for him that people began to voluntarily donate money for his campaign. Wherever he went, people offered him money ranging from few hundreds to lakhs of rupees.

Mr. Surender was a longtime aspirant. He was one of the earliest leaders from Yellareddy constituency to work under the leadership of Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao when the Telangana Rashtra Samithi was formed. In 2004, he contested as an Independent since the TRS preferred another candidate. He lost three elections back-to-back. This time he is a Congress candidate.
