Series of programmes lined up for the Formation Day celebrations across Telangana State

The Adilabad District Sports Authority on Thursday invited entries from sportspersons and teams to participate in the sports and games competitions being held from June 4 at Indira Priyadarshini Stadium in connection with the State Formation Day celebrations. Entries are invited for chess, athletics (men and women) in 100 mtr, 400 mtr, 800 mtr, long jump, shot put, swimming, badminton, kabaddi and volleyball on or before June 1. Special Correspondent adds: The Telangana Formation Day promises fun for womenfolk as the district authorities have chalked out a series of programmes like Rangoli (on June 3) at the Collectorate, fancy dress competition (June 4) at Circus grounds, mehendi competitions (June 5) at Revenue Gardens and cookery competitions called ‘Telangana Ruchulu’ (June 6) at TNGOs’ function hall.

Staff Reporter adds: The district administration is gearing up for the smooth conduct of the week-long Telangana Formation Day celebrations.

While the district Collectorate is being decked up for the purpose, a martyrs’ memorial of 33-feet high is being readied since the past one week. The work is expected to be completed in the next two days. A six-feet high ‘Telangana Talli’ statue will be installed on the pedestal. Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao is scheduled to take part in the flag hoisting programme to be held at the Parade Grounds on June 2.Staff Reporter adds: A dazzling display of fireworks, an array of mouth-watering traditional delicacies and scintillating folk art performances will feature the first anniversary ceremony of Telangana Formation Day on June 2 and the celebrations to follow till June 7.

The district administration has drawn up an elaborate plan of action to organise a host of literary, cultural, sports and other interesting events. A memorial of the Telangana martyrs will be unveiled here marking the formal beginning of the celebrations, sources said. Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was held here on Thursday to chalk out arrangements for the smooth conduct of the celebrations on a grand scale.
