Security has been beefed up along the periphery of Bhadrachalam division, which shares a volatile inter-State border with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, in the wake of an “encounter” between the security forces and Maoists in Gompad forest area in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday morning.

According to sources, a woman Maoist was killed in the alleged exchange of fire between the security forces and the rebels in the neighbouring State.

The Bhadrachalam sub-division police reportedly intensified vigil in the forest fringe villages along the porous inter-State borders and also scaled up security at key installations in the vast division as a security precaution.
