TJAC to meet in a couple of days

The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) will deliberate on the issue of Ministers criticising its chairman M. Kodandaram at a special executive committee meeting to be convened in Hyderabad in a couple of days with a view to counter them. The JAC has apparently taken umbrage of the criticism of Professor Kodandaram done by Cabinet Ministers over his alleged remark that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should step down as he has failed to deliver in terms of development.

Answering questions of newsmen at Mancherial after a meeting of the executive committee of the JAC of East Adilabad district, Prof. Kodandaram denied having asked the Chief Minister to step down. He however said that he had pointed out the failure of the government in ushering development keeping in view the interest of the common man in the State.

At the meeting itself, the JAC chairman was severely critical of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government though he did not launch a direct attack on either Ministers or Mr. Rao. Talking about the lack of development, he reiterated that nothing has changed in terms of development during the two years of TRS coming to power.

Prof. Kodandaram demanded scrapping open cast mines which are against the interest of miners. He criticised the Chief Minister for vowing not to favour the open cast mining of coal before Telangana was formed but rooting for it after coming to power. Talking about unemployment, apparently with reference to the promise of Mr. Rao of huge employment potential to be created once Telangana was formed, the JAC chairman quoted the example of the eastern side of Adilabad. He said there was neither industrial development nor development in irrigation potential in these parts which is a cause of rampant unemployment.

“The area was underdeveloped under united Andhra Pradesh as leaders of the two regions had stolen all natural resources from Telangana. After formation of Telangana, everyone thought that the process will be reversed but there is hardly any industrial development,” Prof. Kodandaram pointed out.

Continuing on lack of development in the eastern parts of the district, the JAC chairman also demanded a university and a medical college in the area.
