Project oustees brace for phase II of protest

June 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 16, 2016 04:48 pm IST - SANGAREDDY:

This time, the focus is on getting the right compensation

With a first win over the government on the implementation of the Land Acquisition Act -2013 also on the issue of Mallannasagar reservoir construction at Toguta and Kondapaka mandals of Medak district, the land oustees are getting ready for second phase fight with the government.

This time, the focus is more on getting the base price of land calculated as per the market rate, rather than the rate at the Registrar Office.

Meanwhile, the land oustees of Erravalli dug out a document pertaining to 2012. “Land was sold for Rs.5.2 lakh and it was registered for the same price about four years ago. Naturally, land rates will increase as the irrigation facility is coming up. Hence, the government should come forward to fix this as basic land price instead of Rs.60,000 as quoted by Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao. Even if the government sticks to its stand, it would be nothing but taking the people for a ride in the name of Act,” said Manne Mahipal Reddy of Erravalli.

The land oustees are also for looking details on how the LA Act 2013 was implemented in other states as it is being reported that some farmers got better compensation compared to what the Telangana State Government is offering them – that being Rs. 5.8 lakh per acre.

In a related development, the land oustees responded positively over the court ruling dismissing a petition filed by farmers affected under Mallannasagar against GO 123.

“The government told the court that land would not be acquired from farmers forcibly, and that public opinion would be elicited before taking up construction works. Now we will have a fair chance to express our opinion,” said Karunkar Reddy, a land oustee.
