Police geared up to strictly enforce the rule

Blue Colts and other wings of the town police took out a motorbike rally on day one of the strict implementation of the helmet rule on Friday, highlighting the imperative need for motorcyclists to wear helmets.

The bike rally was flagged off by Bhadrachalam ASP R. Bhaskaran at Pavilion Grounds here. Khammam DSP K. Suresh Kumar, Traffic CI P. Naresh Reddy, two-town CI M. Ramesh and others were present.

People from various walks of life apart participated in the rally by wearing helmets, propagating the significance of wearing the protective headgear, which is mandatory as per law.

A majority of two-wheeler riders across the town followed suit by wearing helmets, even as the police geared up to strictly enforce the helmet rule. The sale of helmets witnessed a surge, with scores of two-wheeler riders flocking to the roadside outlets to buy helmets to protect themselves from accidents and avoid fines.
