In a bid to make its call for observance of “martyrs week” from July 28 to August 3 a success, Maoists allegedly laid a virtual siege to the Ramachandrapuram-Ankannagudem stretch of the Bhadrachalam-Venkatapuram main road for a couple of hours and planted explosives in a plastic bucket on the roadside in the wee hours of Sunday.
The incident comes close on the heels of the wall poster campaign launched by the ultras in the remote border villages along the restive inter-State border with Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the past few days.
Sources said that a group of Maoists reportedly blocked vehicular traffic on Bhadrachalam-Venkatapuram main road near Ramachandrapuram by tying a rope between two roadside trees from one end of the road to other and planting two plastic buckets on either side of the main road.
The ultras reportedly threw pamphlets containing slogans in support of the ensuing “martyrs week” at the site before vanishing.
