Produces 5.94 lakh tonnes of coal as against the stipulated monthly target of 5.26 lakh tonnes for July

The Kothagudem area of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has topped in coal production among all other coal mine areas of the State-owned company in July, despite several hurdles.

The Kothagudem area comprising two underground mines and two opencast projects has produced 5.94 lakh tonnes of coal as against the stipulated monthly target of 5.26 lakh tonnes for July, registering a growth of 113 per cent. It has achieved the remarkable feat despite frequent disruption in coal production caused by heavy rains in July. Coal production in VK 7 incline in Kothagudem area suffered a drastic decline due to overhaul of mining machines and equipment, sources added.

The incident of methane gas leakage in PVK 5 shaft brought the coal production in the underground mine to a grinding halt in the second week of July. However, the two opencast projects – JVR OC-I and the GKOC – have recorded significant production growth to the tune of 135 and 117 per cent respectively last month, according to SCCL sources. Announcing the coal production figures for July in Kothagudem on Monday, SCCL GM (Kothagudem Area) K.V. Ramana Murthy appreciated the coal workers, supervisory staff and officials for excelling in production endeavour. He lauded the sustained efforts of the coal workers in enabling the Kothagudem area make significant strides in both coal production and dispatches.
