Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) chairman Prof. M. Kodandaram demanded the State Government to implement Land Acquisition Act of 2013 and extend compensation based on the same.
“Land acquisition need to be taken up under the Act instead of G.O. 123 as is being done by the State government. Stop the Mallanna Sagar reservoir works immediately,” demanded Prof. Kodandaram, while addressing a relay hunger-strike organised at Etigaddakishtapur in Toguta mandal of Medak district on Monday.
The T-JAC chairman interacted with the villagers and discussed about their problems due to construction of Komuravelli Mallanna Sagar reservoir. Objecting land acquisition without any resolution by respective grama panchayats, he said that the JAC would be with them in their fight and it would continue till they win the fight.

“There is no difference between the previous governments and the present government, and both are following the same path. This is not development but only destruction. You can retain your lands by continuing your fight,” he said.
Stating that the government has violated the norms in land acquisition, Prof. Kodandaram said that Medha Patkar would visit Mallanna Sagar reservoir affected villages shortly.
In related development, land oustees from across the district commenced a relay fast at the district headquarters, adjacent to the Collectorate.

Addressing the agitators, Rytu JAC chairman Justice Chandra Kumar demanded the government to reduce the capacity of Mallanna Sagar reservoir to four tmcft instead of 50 tmcft as proposed. All-India Kisan Sabha leader Sarampally Malla Reddy demanded the government to pay compensation as per land acquisition Act for land oustees. He wondered why there was no notification for land acquisition.
