In recent weeks, the Medak police have demonstrated their humane side on more than one occasion. Two days ago Srinivas Naidu, Circle Inspector, Sadashivapet, knocked on the doors of an NGO seeking shelter for a minor girl rescued from a forced marriage. It is not the first time Mr. Naidu turned to social activists to help abandoned children.

About a week ago, D. Anjaiah, mandal education officer, Kohir, received a call from S. Vijaya Kumar, Sub-Inspector, Chiragpally, asking him to come to the police station. He wanted the officer to explore options for three children whose widowed mother had brought them to the police station as she could not afford to bring them up.

Earlier this month, Mr. Vijaya Kumar helped a cattle grazer boy Ramesh to get admission to a local school. As word of the deed spread, several other poor people in the vicinity began approaching him with requests.

In another incident, a mentally disturbed mother at Medak town was seen carrying a two-and-half-year-old girl. The girl was not in a condition to bear the heat of summer. Some of the policemen noticed the child’s condition and called ChildLine for help.
