Foundation stone creates traffic problem

Traffic inconvenience: Plaque of foundation stone laid by Y.S. Rajashekara Reddy for the National Highway widening turns hindrance for traffic at Sangareddy.

Foundation stones used to become part of structures many a time. However, sometimes they create problems. Here is such a case at Pothireddypally chowrasta.

Late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy laid foundation stone for four lane road work from Miyapur to Sangareddy during his first tenure. The road work was completed and the traffic congestion was cleared on the high way.

It was completely defaced with posters and the bottom of it getting collapsed except Raja Mudra of Three Lions on the top of it.

However, the foundation stone was kept at the left side of the road on Mumbai – Zaheerabad high way. This happened long back when the Sangareddy town was not much developed and the traffic was not much at the centre.

But the situation has changed in the last five years and the chowrasta has been witnessing more traffic, particularly in the evening hours as large number of buses, including several private buses going towards Mumbai and Bidar.

These buses stop exactly opposite to the NTR statue and few yards away from the foundation stone laying there. Using the foundation as a cue, many road side shops were established there selling tea and fruits. To attract the customers they were using erecting even display boards.

“Many were taking wrong turn to have tea and fruit drinks at these shops. This may result in accidents as this is the highway with heavy traffic. When we are trying to remove those shops they were showing this as an alibi stating that their shops were adjacent to that and dare to remove that before touching them. Our hands were completely tied up unless a serious decision was taken by higher authorities,” said a traffic officer on condition of anonymity.
