Adilabad Collector M. Jagan Mohan on Wednesday appealed to Dalit youth to come forward and take benefit out of the several self employment schemes and welfare programmes brought forth by the State government for them. He said as not all can land with government jobs, self employment is the way out for economic and social backwardness.

Addressing a training-cum-awareness programme on government welfare schemes for Dalits, the Collector said officials of Social Welfare department wings and bankers would provide details on how to utilise the programmes to eke out maximum benefits. He cautioned prospective beneficiaries on proper spending of money raised through bank loans towards self employment schemes. Mr. Jagan Mohan said lack of education and literacy had resulted in continued backwardness of Dalit communities. He said it had also resulted in affecting the general health of such communities. Dalit Welfare Department Executive Director James Kalavala said 4,821 beneficiaries were selected during the current year under various schemes. The training programme will be held in other four Revenue Divisions, he added.
