Crime rate against women declines in Ramagundam

The number of cases in which crime is perpetrated against women has come down drastically in Ramagundam Police Commissionerate area comprising Peddapalli and Mancherial districts.

There were only 352 cases registered during 2016 when compared to 460 crime cases in the Commissionerate last year.

Addressing the annual press conference in Ramagundam on Friday, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal said that there were four dowry murders and seven dowry deaths during the year. The dowry harassment (IPC 498-A) cases have also come down to 139 cases compared to 166 in the year 2015. However, the figure for murder of women was nine this year compared to three in 2015.

The rape cases have come down to 28 this year when compared to 36 in 2015. The kidnappings have also reduced to 19 cases when compared to 24 cases in 2015. The outrage of modesty cases also have come down to 124 when compared to 191 last year. The bigamy cases have reduced to three this year against 12 cases last year.

There were no incidences of murder for gain and dacoity in the Commissionerate last year. The Commissionerate achieved 78.14 per cent detection of all the criminal cases and conviction of 21.73 per cent. Stating that they had deployed SHE teams in all the 19 police stations in the Commissionerate, the Mr. Duggal said that they had installed a total of 980 CCTV cameras in both Peddapalli and Mancherial districts.
