The Congress was at the receiving end of TRS ire in the Telangana Assembly on Tuesday over respecting former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao. A reference to PV made by Leader of the Opposition K. Jana Reddy during his speech on budget stating that it was the late Prime Minister who had initiated growth of IT sector in 1991, resulting in Hyderabad’s progress as one of the major IT destinations in the country, ultimately led to Congress bashing by Ministers K.T. Rama Rao and G. Jagadish Reddy. Mr. Jana Reddy hailed the role of PV in the progress of Telangana.
However, the treasury benches reacted sharply when he remarked that TRS had “showed love for PV just for sympathy vote” and they did not resort to such exploitation ever.
Taking a strong exception to Mr. Reddy’s remarks, Mr. Rama Rao sought to know where was the Congress’ love for “Telangana bidda” PV after his death as his body was not even allowed to be kept in AICC office to enable people pay tributes lest his conducting his funeral in Delhi as was the practice in case of other Prime Ministers.

As PV’s body was not allowed to be cremated in Delhi, it was flown to Hyderabad insulting even the departed soul. He sought to know whether questioning the insult heaped upon PV amounted to claiming sympathy. As a tribute to the son of the soil, the Telangana Government would include PV’s life in the history syllabus, Mr. Jagadish Reddy noted.
