Animal rights activists seek ban on Al-Kabeer

January 07, 2017 12:10 am | Updated 12:10 am IST - SANGAREDDY:

Several animal rights organisations have demanded that the State government ban Al-Kabeer, a mechanised slaughterhouse, located at Rudraram in Sangareddy district.

It was evident from the recent directions of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the Pollution Control Board (PCB) that the infamous slaughterhouse has been a habituated violator of the law, they said.

The activists visited the surroundings of the factory on Wednesday where they found animal carcasses lying around.

In a release here on Friday, they demanded that such a “hazardous” company not be allowed to run so that a healthy atmosphere was maintained around the region.

The statement was signed by leading animal rights activist Jasraj Srisri Mal of the Bharatiya Pranimitra Sangh, veteran environmentalist Kishan Rao, and Surender Bhandari, founder secretary of the Greater Hyderabad Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, among others.

“We would like to express our extreme distress and dismay at the unfortunate developments happening in the region. It would be a mockery of animal rights and human rights. It is not at all acceptable to butcher mute animals in the name of earning some foreign exchange,” the statement read.
