A 41-kilometre ring road would be constructed in Khammam to ease traffic congestion in the district headquarters town, said Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao.
The State government has sanctioned Rs. 209 crore for taking up works to finalise the alignment of the ring road and execute the land acquisition process. The ring road project would facilitate smooth vehicular flow in and around the district headquarters town, Mr. Rao said.
He was speaking at the 70th Independence Day celebrations after hoisting the national flag at the Police Parade grounds here on Monday. Works were in progress to upgrade a 100-km stretch of the Vijayawada-Jagdalpur National Highway 221 (new NH 30) at an estimated cost of Rs. 456 crore. A detailed project report for upgradation of the Kodad-Khammam-Mahabubabad road into the National Highway has already been submitted to the Centre.

The Central government has announced some other new road infrastructure projects passing through the district. The new projects would help create a vast National Highway network of more than 200 km in the district.
Giving a detailed account of the progress of the works on the Bhakta Ramadasu and Sitarama lift irrigation projects, the Minister said the two projects would expand the irrigation facilities multi-fold.
