Youth stages dharna on mobile phone tower

Holding demands:A youth stages a dharna climbing a mobile phone tower in Natham in Dindigul district on Tuesday.

One person climbed a mobile phone tower in Natham on Tuesday and staged a demonstration, pressing for various demands which included establishment of a Government Arts College in Natham and shifting of the library to a place where people gather in large numbers. Situation was tense for a while near the taluk office.

Karuppusamy (21) of Cherveedu village in Natham union climbed the mobile phone tower before Natham taluk office on Dindigul-Natham Main Road and threw papers detailing his demands from the tower.

On information, Natham Inspector of Police Bastin Dinakaran, fire and rescue services personnel and revenue officials rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the youth.

Karuppusamy expressed his concern over the functioning of the fire station under a tiled shelter in Natham.

At present, the library was functioning in a remote place which was inaccessible to the public. It should be shifted to a prime location in the heart of the town, he demanded.

Later, the police convinced him and brought him down.

After preliminary investigation, the police said that the youth was mentally disturbed.

He studied up to Plus One and was often engaged in reading books and writing articles.

Youth wanted a Government Arts College established in Natham and library shifted to a prime location.
