Youth arrested for chain snatching

The city police, on Thursday, arrested one person on the Vaigai Thenkarai Road on the charge of snatching gold chains from women in two recent instances.

According to the police, a special team, led by Pechimuthu, Assistant Commissioner of Police, arrested S. Vimalraj (24) of Keezha Anna Thoppu, for his alleged involvement in two instances of chain snatching at Khanpalayam.

In a press release, the city police said that a gold chain weighing 4.5 sovereigns was snatched from a 75-year-old flower vendor G. Lakshmi at Khanpalayam Fifth Street on April 19 by an unidentified person.

Similar incident

A similar incident was reported at Khanpalayam Fourth Cross Street on April 28.

The victim was 65-year-old M. Vijayalakshmi. Based on a complaint filed with the Teppakulam police, a special team was formed to nab the culprit by Mohamed Shahjahan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime). The police also recovered the stolen property from the accused.
