Young and old pedal across Salem city

People from different walks of life participated in the ‘cyclothon’ organised by the Salem chapter of Young Indian (Yi) of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in the city on Sunday.

The ‘CII –Yi cyclothon’, which covered a distance of 20 km, was organised to create awareness on physical fitness and checking pollution.

After M. Paramasivam, Chief Executive and Managing Director of SRC Private Limited, flagged off the event at the Pioneer Sports Club premises, the enthusiastic cyclists pedalled their way through Five Roads, Four Roads junction, Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Cherry road, Kannangurichi road, Adivaram road, Gorimedu, Hasthampatti before retuning back to the starting point.

Mr. Paramasivam commended the CII and the Yi for creating awareness on various social issues.Led by Chairman of the Salem branch of CII, K. M. S. Rajesh Kumar, Vice-Chairman Vimalan, Chair of Yi V. Aravinthan, Co-Chair of Yi Yatin B. Shah, convener of CII-Yi Cyclothon Shyam Sundar and other office-bearers were present during the flag-off.

Mr. Aravinthan said that the initiative was aimed at giving awareness of having healthy life through physical fitness and to reduce the transport utilities and thereby bringing down the level of pollution.

He said that such initiatives were required for protecting the planet and the participation of each and everyone would help in preserving our habitat for the next generation.
