Renewing her call for the change of government at the Centre, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday said that if Tamil Nadu were to progress in all fields and become the top ranking State, there had to be a government at the Centre that should comply with whatever the State asked for.
Ms Jayalalithaa, in a statement issued on the eve of 97th birth anniversary of the AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, said only if the States were strong, there could be a strong Central government. For this, there had to be a regime change at the Centre. A new government should assume office for reversing economic policies adopted in the last 20 years and ushering in a new thought that would address the needs of people sympathetically, Justice should be meted out to the Tamil society, which had been “wronged in all respects.”
She called upon her party members to work for the success of her party in 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. “Through such a victory, the AIADMK would become the mighty force to decide the future of the country. This will be the homage that we will pay to the glory of M.G.R,” she said.

Coming down on Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi, the Chief Minister said that though the DMK had been in power at the Centre nearly for 17 years since 1996, neither the State nor people of the State gained anything. She also said that it was M.G.Ramachandran who was responsible for making Mr Karunanidhi Chief Minister immediately after the death of the DMK founder and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai in 1969.
