In a shocking incident, S. Ramya, a 23-year-old teacher, was stabbed to death inside a private school in Kurunjipadi by a man who had been stalking her for over a year.

The crime was committed around 8.30 a.m when the victim arrived at the Sri Gayathri Matriculation School. The schoolchildren were yet to arrive. The accused entered a classroom and attacked Ramya on the neck with a knife. The attack left a deep gash on her neck.

It was Shanthi, a sanitary worker, who saw the victim lying in a pool of blood and alerted the school’s Correspondent, V. Rangarajan, who was on the first floor.

On being informed, the police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to the Kurunjipadi Government Hospital.

Minutes before the murder, the accused was seen by a ‘pani-puri’ vendor on the lane where the school is located. “I was cleaning my pushcart when I saw a youth talking on the phone. The teacher, who came to the school on a bicycle, parked it inside the premises while he watched her from across the compound. I went home and returned with a bucket of water to see him leaving on a two-wheeler,” M. Karthikeyan, the vendor, said.

Police said the accused, Rajasekar, was a student at an arts college in Cuddalore and knew the victim, who was doing her M.Sc in Computer Science from a private college and travelled by the same bus.
