Shanthi (52) of Manalmedu near Mayiladuthurai, who tried to file a complaint about entry of cows and goats of Thiruganam into her sugarcane field, was beaten to death on Monday.
As she was going towards the police station with her son Raju, they were waylaid by Thiruganam and his two sons, Prabhakaran and Ilangovan, and attacked with logs.
Shanthi suffered grievous injuries and was rushed to Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Raju has been admitted to the Mayiladuthurai Government hospital for treatment.
