Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday said the State government would bring to the Supreme Court’s attention the failure of Karnataka in releasing water to the State as per the Cauvery Tribunal award.
Asked whether he had any plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek his intervention for release of Cauvery water to the State, Mr. Palaniswami said that he had raised the issue with the Prime Minister when he met him recently.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the prize distribution function of the MGR centenary All India kabaddi tournament here, he said former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was categorical in approaching the Supreme Court to find a solution to the Cauvery water dispute. The case filed by the State, seeking direction on forming the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulatory Authority, would come up for hearing in the Supreme Court on July 11. The State government would bring to the Supreme Court’s attention the Karnataka government’s failure to release water as per the Tribunal award and the current water crisis in Tamil Nadu.

When his attention was drawn to the delay over filling up of vacancies in the State police force, Mr. Palaniswami said only about 10% of vacancies had to be filled up. The list of Grade II police selection was released on Saturday. Some posts had to be filled up through the selection board and some others through promotion. There were some litigations too. However, all steps would be taken to fill up vacancies.
To a question, he said the State had been maintaining the status of the most preferred industrial destination in the country. The State would accord priority to inviting more investors.
Earlier, inaugurating the finals of the All India MGR centenary kabaddi tournament, organised by the AIADMK (Amma) MGR Youth Wing here, the Chief Minister said the AIADMK government had been following the ideals and policies of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The State had produced a number of international players to the country, thanks to her proactive steps in promotion of sports.
Stating that the MGR centenary kabaddi tournament was conducted with the support of all AIADMK functionaries, Mr. Palaniswami said the government would continue to take steps to translate Jayalalithaa’s dreams into reality.
Later, Mr. Palaniswami distributed trophies and prizes to the winners.
In the men’s category, Haryana won the trophy by defeating Punjab in the final. In the women’s category, Himachal Pradesh defeated Haryana in the final.
