The wife of Ziyabudeen (35), who is stranded in one of the violence-hit areas of Iraq, fears for his life.
On Sunday, Mariyambee urged Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to take immediate steps to facilitate the safe return of her husband. Mr. Ziyabudeen, a resident of Periyar Nagar here, is among the hundreds of Indian workers stranded in Iraq. He was working in Dubai previously.
Neither Ms. Mariyambee, who is illiterate, nor his family members know the exact name of the company in which Mr. Ziyabudeen works.

Mariyambee says she only knows that her husband went to Iraq to work as an electrician for a private company. That was on February 22.
The family paid over Rs. 1 lakh to an agent who facilitated work visas and he assured Mr. Ziyabudeen that he would get Rs. 40,000 in salary, but he was paid far below. “After the violence broke out, my husband and a few others who went there with him on work visas are trapped. I don’t know how he will come out safely,” she said.
The family is likely to meet the Chief Minister on Monday to make an appeal.
