Widespread rains across Tamil Nadu

Many parts of the State are likely to receive rain on Friday too

The presence of low pressure area over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining south Tamil Nadu continued to bring in widespread rains across the State.

Many parts of the State are likely to receive rain on Friday too. At the end of the 24-hour-period at 8-30 a.m. on Thursday, Rameswaram received 15 cm; Thiruthuraipoondi (Tiruvarur) – 14 cm, Cholavaram (Tiruvallur district) – 11 cm and Thucklay – 4 cm.

Educational institutions in Nagapattinam remained closed.

Electrocuted

In the last two days, three persons, all in the Cauvery delta, were electrocuted .

The State, since October 1, has registered 29 cm rainfall against the anticipated 27.5 cm, according to the website of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.

While a majority of the districts have witnessed excess or normal rainfall, only six districts – Ariyalur, Kancheepuram, Kanyakumari, Tiruchi, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore – have received deficit rain.
