Why spare Raja: Stalin

September 24, 2018 07:58 am | Updated 07:58 am IST - CHENNAI

DMK president M.K. Stalin on Sunday questioned why the government had failed to arrest BJP national secretary H. Raja, who openly threatened to demolish Periyar’s statue and ridiculed the High Court and the police department, though it did not spare actor-turned-MLA Karunas.

“The AIADMK government is also hesitating to arrest actor S.Ve. Shekher, who used demeaning language against woman journalists. It is condemnable that the government is using different yardsticks,” he said. He alleged that Mr. Karunas was arrested to prevent him from spelling out the “secret” about the Koovathur stay of AIADMK MLAs following O. Panneerselvam’s rebellion last year and how Edappadi K. Palaniswami became CM.

Noting that the AIADMK government didn’t take action against Mr. Raja, AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran said, “This only goes to show the State government's subservience to the BJP.”

DMDK leader Vijayakant also condemned Karunas’ arrest.
