A well-marked low pressure has brought copious rains to parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, leaving roads water-logged and low-lying areas inundated.
Schools were closed on Friday in many parts of the state including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts.
Following the well-marked low pressure area over Comorin area, the regional weather office on Friday advised fishermen of south Tamil Nadu against venturing into the sea owing to the possibility of strong onshore winds reaching up to 50-60 MPH.

Office-goers in Chennai struggled to reach their destination as traffic slowed down due to inundated roads and intermittent rains.
Meanwhile, the weatherman forecast more spells of rain or thundershowers at many places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
In neighbouring Puducherry, rains disrupted normal life for the second successive day.

Schools and colleges remained closed and intermittent and at times heavy rain inundated a number of roads and also side-lanes in and around the town.
The Union Territory has recorded 7.2 cm rain since Thursday, officials said.
