Claiming that he and his family members had answered all the queries raised by the Income Tax department officials, who conducted extensive searches on his house for five days, Jaya TV managing director Vivek Jayaraman on Tuesday said they would satisfactorily account for all assets and answer any questions raised by the I-T officials in the future as well.

Making a brief statement to mediapersons outside his residence in Mahalingapuram here, for the first time since the search operation was launched, Mr. Jayaraman, who is the son of Illavarasi, the sister-in-law of jailed AIADMK leader V.K. Sasikala, said, “The I-T officials did their duty and we did ours by responding to their queries.”

“I have been looking after Jaya TV and Jazz Cinemas for the past two years. During these five days [of raids], they [I-T officials] sought documents with regard to these [entities]. I have given detailed replies [to them],” he said.

Stating that the I-T officials had questioned him about the source of income for his wife’s jewellery, he said he would submit documents within three days. “Maybe after a few days or [even] months, we could be called again for questioning, and we would answer whatever questions they [ I-T officials] raise. We are ready to answer to [the best of] our knowledge,” he said.

Against hyping

In response to persistent queries regarding documents seized during the searches, Mr. Jayaraman said, “Let’s not hype up what is not true,” adding that he was all for paying income tax. “It’s our duty to do that. Be it me or you or [a] Minister, we will have to be liable and we have to do our duty,” he said.

“Let’s not make it [into] propaganda... Let’s not make it a big issue,” he added.
