We are not subservient to Centre: Chief Minister

‘Conveyed objection to new guidelines on medical council’

Reiterating that his government would not sacrifice the interests of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday alleged that a few political parties sought to create an impression that the government had become subservient to the BJP-led government at the Centre.

“They are seeking to create a wrong picture and the people will not accept their argument,” he said, while replying to the debate in the Assembly on the Governor’s address.

He said the AIADMK government had conveyed its objection to the new guidelines for the establishment of the National Medical Council and merger of Central research institutes functioning from Tamil Nadu with institutes in other States and Central projects in Neduvasal and Kathiramangalam.

“Though the Centre has not sanctioned the full amount sought by Tamil Nadu to provide relief for various natural disasters, we have to thank them for the amount already sanctioned. It is not civil in democracy to criticise the government while thanking the Centre,” he said.

Explaining the various achievements of the government in the last 10 months, he said he had cleared a total of 4,903 files.

“Not a single file is pending in my office. The government is keeping fiscal deficit under control, even though there is a decline in revenue receipt and a substantial increase in revenue deficit,” he said.
