“Vested interests sabotaging Kudankulam project”

March 05, 2012 02:02 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:18 am IST - THANJAVUR:

The Union Minister for Shipping, G.K.Vasan, has called for immediate commissioning of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in the interest of Tamil Nadu.

He told The Hindu here on Sunday that the growth and prosperity of the State depended on the availability of power. It was very unfortunate that a group of people was agitating against the commissioning of the project and trying to plunge the State into darkness. The best efforts taken by the Central government to commission the plant as early as possible was being deliberately sabotaged by these vested interests, Mr.Vasan said. “I would like to remind the hardship faced by the students of Tamil Nadu at this time of annual examinations. People from all walks of life suffer due to the power shortage. It is high time the State government took a firm stand and dealt with these vested interests sternly. People of Tamil Nadu should not be allowed to suffer in the hands of these vested interests,” Mr. Vasan said.

Central government should continue its pro-active stand on this issue and give “light and life to Tamil Nadu" by commissioning the plant. The State government should co-operate with the Central government as growth of Tamil Nadu was involved, he said.
