Twenty new buses were added to Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation’s (TNSTC) Vellore fleet.
This included three conductor-less buses, which would ply between Vellore and Chennai.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had flagged off 471 new buses in Chennai.

Of this, 20 buses were allotted for the Vellore region of TNSTC. While 12 buses were flagged off from Chennai by the Chief Minister, the remaining eight buses were flagged off by Commercial Taxes Minister K.C. Veeramani at the Vellore new bus stand on Thursday. Collector S.A. Raman was also present.
The new buses would operate on various routes — three each on the Vellore-Chennai (point-to-point) route, two each for Chennai-Dharmapuri, Vellore-Tirupattur, Chennai-Hosur and Chennai-Salem and one each on Arcot-Bengaluru, Gudiyatham-Bengaluru, Sholinghur-Chennai, Gudiyatham-Chennai, Vaniyambadi-Chennai, Ambur-Adyar, Vellore-Arakkonam, Vellore-Kancheepuram and Pernambut-Bengaluru routes, a press release said.
“Already, 10 conductor-less buses are being operated from Vellore to Chennai since July. There is good response from the public for this service.

“We have added three more conductor-less buses on the same route now,” said an official of TNSTC, Vellore region.
Among others, K. Elangovan, general manager of TNSTC Vellore region and K. Ponnu Pandi, deputy manager (commercial), TNSTC Vellore region, were present.
A lift for the use of passengers was inaugurated at platform 2 of the Katpadi railway station. G. Hari, Member of Parliament, K.C. Veeramani, Commercial Taxes Minister and Collector S.A. Raman were present.
Currently, there is one lift on platform one of the station. The new passenger lifts along with engineering works has come up at a cost of ₹35 lakh and will be useful for elderly passengers and patients using the railway station. K. Manoj, additional divisional railway manager, Chennai division was present, according to a press release from Southern Railway.
