Says it is the only way to overcome the political impasse

Fresh election to the State Assembly is the only Constitutional solution to the current political imbroglio in Tamil Nadu, Dravidar Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani said on Monday.

In a brief chat with the media on the sidelines of the Periyar Maniammai University’s 25th convocation, Mr. Veeramani lamented that the present AIADMK regime did not think about people’s welfare and issues faced by the common man. Instead, it had to contend with its own survival issues. “The Edappadi K. Palaniswami dispensation is facing the litmus test daily even as it survives, at the behest of the BJP,” he commented.

The Dravidar Kazhagam leader came down heavily on the Central Government and the BJP saying the saffron party was dreaming of gaining a toehold in Tamil Nadu. “The BJP is resorting to political engineering to establish a base for itself in the land where Thanthai Periyar had crafted social engineering. The fight here is really between political engineering and social engineering. The people will call the BJP’s bluff,” he remarked.

Castigating the BJP for “trampling on democratic norms and principles”, Mr. Veeramani said that party’s recent actions have only helped crystallise Opposition unity. It was clear that the BJP was directing the AIADMK factions and leaders “for meeting its own ends.” However, forces that set store by democracy, social justice and secularism were coming together on a common platform, he noted.
