VCK candidate vows to put Vanur on tourism map

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) general secretary and party nominee for Vanur (reserved) assembly segment D. Ravikumar on Wednesday promised to develop Vanur as a model constituency in all spheres of development if he was elected to power in the May 16 Assembly elections.

For literacy

Addressing an election campaign at Kandamangalam here, he said that the main objective was to make the constituency having 32.5 percent of its population as Scheduled Castes as 100 per cent literate.

Mr. Ravikumar said that special schools for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students with 100 per cent subsidy from the Centre would also be established in the constituency. The constituency also lacked sufficient number of middle and high schools.

Though Ministers for School and College Education from the Dravidian parties hailed from Villupuram district education was not given its due importance.

“Education is my priority and if elected I will set up model schools and develop infrastructure in the education sector.”

Cultural tourism

Mr. Ravikumar also promised that the famous temples at Panchavati, Thiruvakkarai and the National Fossil Wood Park at Thiruvakkarai will be developed as part of the cultural tourism circuit.

Villages located on the periphery of the International township of Auroville would be developed as self-sufficient villages with the expertise of Auroville, he said.
