Says views against the poet condemnable

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Friday said the threat to poet Vairamuthu and Tamil daily Dinamani, which had published his controversial article on Andal, after both of them expressed regret, was “revolting and uncivilised.” He said those who claimed to be custodians of Hindu religion were waiting for an opportunity to sow the seeds of hate politics.

“They have threatened to lay siege to the office of the daily and expressed strong views against Mr. Vairamuthu. This is highly condemnable. With a view to gaining publicity and inciting violence, some people have targeted Mr. Vairamuthu. In a democracy, a view should be countered with another. Tamil Nadu has no place for violating decency,” he said.

Mr. Stalin said that while Mr. Vairamuthu had clarified that his intention was not to hurt anyone, the daily had openly expressed regret. “The DMK believes the religious belief of people should not be criticised. But some people are using of the incident to spread hatred,” he said.
