Vaiko demands suspension of Lanka from CHOGM

November 09, 2013 02:39 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:02 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko has demanded that Sri Lanka be suspended from the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting be called off.

In a statement, he accused India of aiding Sri Lanka in its war against the LTTE in 2008-09. Even as the international community was demanding an international probe against Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa accusing him of serious war crimes and genocide of Eelam Tamils, there was an attempt to make him the chairperson of Commonwealth.

Mr. Vaiko said his party welcomed the State-wide bandh called by traders, political parties and Tamil organisations on November 12 in support of various demands. He said the party cadre would resort to road/rail-roko.
